Recreation Recreation Opportunities Need a place to go to "shoot hoops", swim or just hang out? There are plenty of recreational opportunities available here at the center. Check it out! Fitness Room Year Round Our fitness room is a wonderful place to unwind after a long day. Come on in and enjoy the treadmills, dumbbells, stairclimber, stationary bikes and various weight machines. We even have cable television for your enjoyment. Fitness Room users are required to have a Fitness Room Orientation prior to using the room. Orientation fees are $15 per person. You may now schedule your Fitness Room Orientation online by going to the Orientation Dates and Times link. Patrons may choose from a variety of different memberships or choose to be a "Drop in user". Additional Fitness Room Information, including our membership fee schedule, is available online. Aerobics Classes October through May We are certain that you will enjoy our morning aerobics class with our energetic aerobics instructor, Susan Wells. Come and exercise with people that are just like you! Aerobics classes meet on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 9:15-10:00 AM. This class is a low-impact routine that is fun and one which anyone can do! It involves some standing aerobics, some chair exercises and some strengthening exercises using elastic bands. Seniors aged 60 and over are free. All others pay a $1.00 drop in fee, payable at the front desk. Free Martial Arts Classes! Year Round WMFC is pleased to announce that, in a joint effort with Gateway Martial Arts, we are able to offer FREE martial arts classes every Tuesday night and run all year. Classes are for ages 5 through adult. Beginner class (new students to Blue Belt, regardless of age) is from 6:00-7:00 PM Advanced class (Blue belt and higher, regardless of age) is from 7:00-8:00 PM. To register, just stop in on a Tuesday night and the karate instructor will process your registration. Participants must sign a waiver before attending their first class. New students are welcome to join the class at any time. Volleyball Leagues Fall and Winter Coed Volleyball leagues compete on Sunday evenings. The Fall league begins in late October and the Winter league begins in early January. Team Registrations usually begin approximately 5 weeks before the season starts. Men's Winter Basketball League Fall - October through December Winter - January through March Our men's basketball leagues are some of the best leagues in the county. They are competitive and just good, clean "fun". Registration for the fall league begins in October and winter league registration begins in December. Swimming In the summer, our beautiful outdoor pool is a favorite place for our summer patrons to come and visit. Come take a swim in our clean, warm pool. Pool hours vary, so please call ahead of time. Cost is $1.00 per swimmer aged 6 and over. Children age 5 and under are FREE. The Center also offers swimming lessons in the summer, beginning in June. Batting Cage Rentals Our batting cage is available for baseball and softball teams to rent during selected weekday evenings. The batting cage rental includes the batting cage and the entire gym, and comes complete with a pitching machine and balls, batting helmets and a safety net. Cost is $35 per hour. Batting cage supervisors, must be at least 18 years of age, must sign a liability waiver, and are required to have a a minumum of 2 yrs. of coaching experience in either baseball or softball in order to rent the cage. They must also complete a Batting Cage Orientation prior to renting the cage. Batting cage supervisors are required to take full responsibility for the safety of their players. Once you have completed a Batting Cage Orientation, you may reserve your batting cage time by submitting your Name, Address, Phone Number, Email Address and the Date and Time that you wish to reserve the batting cage to Renee Allen at the following email address. Basketball Tournaments The West Midland Family Center sponsors the "March Madness" Basketball Tournament every year. This tournament is open to all men's basketball teams in the surrounding area. Whenever possible, the March Madness Tournament will be comprised of two divisions of competition: "Open" and "Over 30".
