Teen Activities

After School with WMFC teens

After school program begins two weeks into the school year at West Midland Family Center. The program is K-8th grade but will also accept 9-12 grade participants. We meet at West Midland Family Center Monday through Friday after school until 6pm. We are privileged to have transportation from Bullock Creek Middle School to the program provided with parent pick up at the end of the day.

Each day of after school program a snack is provided to everyone who attends. After snack the teens are allowed free time to unwind after a long day at school, and then we ask them to begin working on homework.

During homework time staff roam the room and help those who have questions or struggle with their work. We also use our volunteers, when they are available, as one on one homework partners for those who require additional help.

The driving force in the teen after school program is our positive curriculum. “Positive actions help to make positive thoughts and positive feelings.” With the positive action philosophy behind each activity in the program it is our goal to increase teen self esteem and build confidence within individuals. Our teens are reminded of the philosophy each day with a fifteen minute discussion stemming from our positive action curriculum.

The teen after school program focuses on a new theme each week for the activity time. We try new things, take field trips, and invite guests in to share with our teens during this time period. We work to make every day different and exciting, yet we keep structure and consistency a priority.

After school with our teens is an amazing experience. We learn as much from them as they do from being a part of the program. For further information on program dates, time and registration please contact our teen program director.

Friday Night Events

FRIDAY NIGHTS are just for TEENS!

PURPOSE: There are several reasons that WMFC has decided to change Friday Night Events to a registered program. A program that students register or sign-in and out for each night allows staff to know exactly which teens are in attendance at any given time, on any given night.

The registration process also helps to ensure that WMFC possesses the current personal and emergency contact information for each teen in the program. This information is checked on a regular basis which helps us to keep our participants safe. Registration also allows WMFC to keep track of attendance numbers so that we can adapt the program to meet the needs of our teens and to enable us to provide the best experience for our teens.

HOW: Any teen wishing to attend a Friday Night Event must register on, or before, the date of the event. Parents may bring their child to the center to register any time during WMFC’s posted operating hours. A parent or guardian must be present to register their teen for the first Friday Night Event.

REQUIREMENTS: When a teen registers for their first Friday Night Event, they must have a parent or guardian present during the time of registration. (Their parent or guardian need only be present at the first registration.) In addition, teens must present their valid school photo ID on each Friday Night that they attend.

In order for a teen to stay registered, they must provide a working phone number, working emergency contact number, be currently enrolled in school, and have a picture on file. 6th through 8th graders must sign in between 5:30pm- 6:30pm and 9th through 12th graders and alternative ed. or college students, must sign in between 9:00pm- 10:00pm. Anyone wishing to sign in for the event after their designated sign-in time will not be admitted to that night’s event.

Friday evenings are staffed with amazing role models and mentors who love to get to know all of the teens, while at the same time, ensuring a fun and safe evening of activity. Come and meet our staff, make new friends, and hang out with the old! For more information contact Stacey Urbani at 989-832-3256.
