West Midland Food and Clothing Depot

For those in need, we’re here to help!

Food Resources

Partnering with The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan and Hidden Harvest allows us to provide those in need with a variety of food items including fresh produce, baked goods, canned goods, and prepared meals. These options are designed to help provide nutritious options for those facing food insecurity.

Weekly Produce Distribution

Most Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays we attempt to hold a produce rescue distribution. We “attempt,” since we do not know how much food will be available until each afternoon. You can find out if the produce, meals, and other items are available by calling 989-750-9114 after 1:30 p.m. on those days and listen to the recording.

Monthly Mobile Distribution

We host a monthly mobile food distribution featuring items from the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. This is a convenient drive-through event held in our parking lot. Pre-registration is required. For more information on how to register, see the Produce Rescue Calendar above.

Clothing Room & Household Goods

We offer a wide variety of free new and gentley used clothing for individuals and familes in need. Available Items may include everyday wear, seasonal clothing and accessories for all ages and sizes. Our goal is to provide quality clothing that helps meet basic needs while offering comfort, dignity, and support to members in our community.

Household items, mattresses, personal care supplies, and pet food are also available to help support individuals and families in need. Please refer to the timeline below to see how often we are able to help you and your family.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is this program for?

1

Anyone in need, from any county, is able to access this program.

Can I volunteer at the Depot?

2

Absolutely! We thrive on helping community members give their time to help their neighbors, and this is an excellent way to do so! Check out our Volunteer page for more details, or talk with the staff at the Depot when you stop in.

Why do you have timeslots for the food rescue?

3

Our parking lot is limited, so we rotate folks through our produce rescue program based on last name. These time slots also rotate each week, so everyone has a chance to come through first. Our monthly mobile distribution has time slots for the registered patrons coming to get food. They know if they come during their registered time that they will receive the same amount of food as every other registered patron.

Can I drop off donations at the Depot?

4

We are thankful for the partnerships we have created to receive our donations. We currently receive so many goods that we are unable to accept donations from individuals. If you have a particular donation, please talk to the Depot staff and they can be of further assistance.

Where are you located?

5

We are located on M-20 just 2 miles west of West Midland Family Center, or 2 miles east of the Isabella County line.

Our Story

In 2018, WMFC entered into a partnership with 4 local Walmart stores to rescue and redistribute their overstock and returned items. This partnership also allowed us to include many household necessities, such as kitchen goods, toys for children, curtains, and other such items available for community members who often are in need of such items, but are limited to what they have the available funds to purchase.

Originally, WMFC intended to build a facility on our main campus to house this program. Running into multiple issues, including the $3-4 million cost of new construction, we looked for other solutions. Just 2 miles west of WMFC was a building for sale. Formerly an Army Surplus Store, this building was the perfect size and location for our rescue operations!

With some careful planning and grant funding, WMFC was able to convert this space into a resource hub to house our growing program. Since Fall of 2023, the West Midland Food and Clothing Depot has been providing fresh produce, prepared deli meals, shelf stable food items, bakery goods, and a wide range of home goods to anyone in need throughout the area.
